DESCRIPTION/
This illustration was created as a slide projection used for University-level immunology lectures. It describes the triggers for activation of NLRP3 inflammasome, which sense danger in the innate immune system. The triggers include: (1A) phagocytosis, (1B) mitondrial ROS production, (1C) potassium efflux, and (1D) lysosomal disruption. Once NLRP3 is activated, it will cleave pro-IL1B to IL-1B (see blowup), which is an important inflammatory mediator during the inflammatory response.
